Flat track roller derby is a fast paced team contact sport played by two teams on roller skates. There are two 30 minute halves and during those halves as many jams are held as the clock will allow. Jams can last up to two minutes and players get a 30 second break in between jams. Five players from each team are on the track during jams. Four players are blockers and one player is the jammer. Jammers try to lap the other team’s blockers, while the blockers try to stop the other team’s jammer from lapping them. It is as simple and as hard as that. Skaters must have speed, endurance and teamwork if they want to win!
